Air Travel

The purpose of this “Fire Behavior Travel Blog” is to allow you to communicate with other Fire Behavior Conference attendees in regard to your travel itinerary and to pool transportation logistics resources from your destination airport to and from Sandestin.

Fire Behavior Travel Blog

Destin is served by two airports. Airline service is available through the Fort Walton Beach Airport, which is actually located on nearby Eglin Air force Base, about a 45 minute drive from Destin. This facility is also known as the Okaloosa County Air Terminal and the airport identifier is VPS . For security purposes private and corporate aircraft are prohibited from landing at this airport. The Destin Airport, also known as Coleman Kelly Field, is located in the heart of Destin only minutes away from our beaches, restaurants and harbor. Direct air service is provided by Wings Air from Atlanta's Gwinnett Airport to the Destin Airport which can also accommodate all corporate jets except larger airline equipment.

There are two additional airports within close proximity to Destin. For more information please visit: http://www.sandestin.com/sandestin_sub_1.asp?sub1_id=98

Seaside self guided walking tour -- http://www.seasidefl.com/

Mayberry by the Water - Seaside, Florida. (Just a 20 minute drive from Sandestin) For decades, the Florida Panhandle, has been known for two things: its extraordinary flour-white beaches and Seaside, a 1980's model town that introduced conscientious urban planning not only to the neighborhood but to the nation—and went on to star as the set for Jim Carrey’s “The Truman Show.” Stroll the quiet Gulf front streets, eat waterside and shop in the eclectic shops of Seaside.
